Competence

FAFS Fire & Security takes pride in the work we undertake and our reputation within the industry

We recognise that our exemplary service can only be maintained by compliance to and the surpassing of British and European Standards which can only be effected through the continuous professional development of all Team Members.

To support our workforce and cascade best practice, we operate a formal Learning and Development Policy for all operatives, ensuring that our workforce is able to consistently work in accordance with the latest British Standards, industry best practices and health and safety legislation.

In support of our Learning and Development policy, we recruit all engineers, designers and surveyors based on experience and qualifications, providing a solid knowledge base around which to develop our training plans, so that all Engineers are fully qualified and competent.

Design

All designers are trained and certificated and are experts in professionally evaluating our customer’s needs to produce compliant designs with a focus on engineering value added solutions, including, the Diploma in Fire Alarm System Design run, and certificated by the Association of Building Engineers and the Fire Industry Association (FIA).

We have invested in developing strong relationships with many leading manufacturers to ensure our design team are provided with continuous training, retaining and improving their competency and providing access to bespoke software to assist and confirm correct system design and operation.

Engineering

As standard, all Engineers have successfully completed Apprenticeships, hold relevant qualifications e.g. City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering and have passed relevant industry training courses. In addition, we ensure all incoming Engineers have attended numerous product-specific training courses and are familiar with the system protocols installed throughout our customer’s estates.

During induction and regularly throughout employment, Engineers are assessed for their technical and Health & Safety competence, and placed on appropriate training programs developed by our Technical Training Manager and our specialist Learning & Development Manager. The Engineer also undergoes a tailored 6 month training program designed to eliminate any identified skill deficiency and develop areas of particular expertise.

Throughout their employment, Engineers are provided with external, professionally run and accredited training sessions for technical disciplines, including product specific training from manufacturers.

We ensure all Engineers maintain a high level of Health and Safety competence and are supported to maintain qualifications including; IOSH, CSCS, UKATA accredited Asbestos Awareness Training, IPAF and PASMA.

Once the initial training plan is complete, Engineers are provided with regular refresher training via internal training sessions, Toolbox Talks, and Short Safety Briefings to ensure that knowledge of legislation, product ranges and customer service is of the highest standard.

In addition, all staff throughout the business are afforded with varying levels of industry training to ensure they fully understand the market in which they operate.
